Dream Interpretation:Transforming Relationships

Hi Rachel,

I dreamt some one was trying to sell me toothpaste when I was at work but it had like a conifer base. They told me it was the next big break through in oral hygiene so I called a hygienist.

My other dream was that I was at a bonfire but I left early to go hang out with my ex and when I was there she took my truck.

When I was standing around waiting too see if she was gonna bring it back her ex-husband showed up with her kids and was telling me he bought a new car and if I needed a ride he would give me one.

Then we ended up at some bar with a live band and she and he were there and Nickleback played “their new song” and then they asked 3 people their names. It was my ex, some one else and me and they put our names in a hat and he picked my name and said, “what song do you want us to play?” I picked “New Orleans is sinking” by The Hip lol and they played it. That’s it.

Hi Anonymous

These are great dreams.

Someone is trying to say this bitter toothpaste is the new-and-best thing and you are at work. That means you are in your own space, doing what you do best. In that space you are the expert. You see? But you call someone because you think they are the expert.

That is when the first challenge appears.

You know you don’t want bitter toothpaste but you probably don’t know how to tell the seller No.

Right now you are working on developing Independence, independent thinking. That’s why you dreamed of receiving a kitten recently in the other dream you sent me.

This dream today is reminding you of what happens when we turn to someone else as an expert. It’s like giving up our own inner voice of authority and listening to someone else, even though they only have their own interests in mind, like the seller. When you do this, in the end the ship sinks like in the song New Orleans is sinking.

So the first part of the dream is reminding you how important it is to think for yourself and use your own reasoning when making decisions about your own life.

Let’s look at the next part.

My other dream was I was at a bonfire with my girl-friend’s family but I left early to go hang out with my ex and when I was there she took my truck.

When I was standing around waiting too see if she was gonna bring it back her ex-husband showed up with her kids and was telling me he bought a new car and if I needed a ride he would give me one.

Then we ended up at some bar with a live band and she and he were there and Nickleback played “their new song” and then they asked 3 ppl their names my ex, some one else and me and they put our names in a hat and he picked my name and said what song you want us to play I picked New Orleans is sinking by The Hip lol and they played it that’s it.

The woods & outdoors are symbols for the mind and for being outside of yourself. Fire is one of the 4 elements. It’s power can help or harm, as in bringing warmth & connection or burning & destroying.

This dream is about a pattern you do in real life. It means you get close to being warm with someone and then you take off.

You even are okay with doing things which others would say hurt them even though you don’t see it that way.

Going to hang out with your ex in your dream means there was a quality she had that you also have. If the quality is used in good ways then good things will come of it. If the quality is used in ways which are not so positive then not so positive things will come out of it.

You can ask  yourself: what quality did your ex have? Was it Independence? Warmth? Or was it manipulation-related? Power-seeking?

The reason you go to her n the dream is because you are hoping to feel good, hoping good things will happen.

But instead she takes your truck.

Taking your truck is really a huge deal.

Your truck is your own vehicle and with it you get yourself to higher states of being, both independently and to help others.

Someone taking your truck is a sign of taking control of you, your direction in life.

Then things start getting worse and worse.

Her ex-husband shows up who she is clearly still in love with. And then he offers you a ride with your car, since the girl took your truck.

In a dream, when you are in a vehicle the first thing to ask is: who is driving the vehicle and since it is your dream the best person to be driving is you.

So to accept a ride from your ex-girl friend’s husband in a dream is like giving up all your power. Does that make sense?

Ending up at a bar is a common cultural practice but that doesn’t mean it’s right. In a dream, alcohol is a symbol for going higher, getting to a higher state of being. But in the real world, alcohol-related issues lead to addiction and the destruction of the mind, body and family.

In the dream Nickleback was playing their newest song but in real life they haven’t released it yet.

Interestingly, when I did a Google search to find out when they are releasing their latest song I came across a video they made of their song “What are you waiting for?” I’ll post it here because it relates to the first part of your dream where the problem started in that you were okay with someone taking something that belonged to you and waiting around to see what happened next.

So then your name goes in a draw and your name is selected.

You ask to hear the song New Orleans is Sinking by The Hip.

The problem with that song is that it is about an island/penninsula sinking and the singer doesn’t know how to swim.

Water in dreams is about life & relationships.

Not being able to swim would be about not being able to flow with intimacy in relationships, in life.

The dream is showing you how there are two choices.

One choice is to be Independent & think for yourself which lead to keeping your own truck, driving where you want, listening to the newest music & getting to chose what you listen to.

The other choice is to let people try to sell you their version of things which would lead to things like putting poison in your mouth, cheating on people you care about, losing your means of transportation & work, falling into addictive cycles and being on an island that is sinking.

How To Get To Warmth in Relationships

Symbolically, you don’t want to let yourself get in a position where you lose your truck. Your truck is a symbol for positive qualities about yourself.

That’s the beginning of things going downhill for you.

How to keep your truck will be the biggest challenge for you and it won’t be easy.

You can ask yourself things like: what if I didn’t leave the bonfire? What if I stayed with my girl-friend and her family? What would that look like?

What do you need in that environment to bring warmth to yourself and to them? Is it Trust? Patience? Kindness? Gentleness?

That is the first question. That is one way to keep your truck.

If you must leave your girl-friend and her family in your truck then the next question you can ask yourself is: Now that I’ve left my girl-friend and her family how can I keep my truck?

The answer will have something to do with not going back to your ex and her husband.

You can ask yourself: Where could I drive instead of to my ex?

What qualities would you need in order to stay in your truck and drive somewhere else? Is it endurance? Courage? Enthusiasm?

In the end, you want to get to a place where you have a choice – like how you got to choose the music at the club — but you don’t want to leave a path of destruction behind you, like hurt feelings at a family get-together, or have a flooding situation in front of you – like not being able to swim in a flood.

You might want to think of driving yourself to a place where you can go swimming without sinking and keep your truck for as long as you want.

Whatever it is you want to go for, begin today.

Since your dream was about a real life pattern it means you are ready to drive things forward now.

You can ask yourself: When I’m camping with my girl-friend and her family what can I do to drive things forward in a positive way? And then do the thing you think of.

See what happens.

What are you waiting for?
